on 28th september, china has completed the construction of the world's first 10,000-ton semi-submersible oil storage platform at the qingdao site of china national offshore oil corporation (cnooc). the successful construction of the platform marks that china's deep-water ocean engineering equipment construction standard has moved up a step.
weighing about 33,000 tons, the hull has a deck with the size of two football fields. it consists of a bottom pontoon in 'circle' shape and four columns, with a maximum water drainage of 110,000 tons, equivalent to three medium-sized aircraft carriers. the hull can withstand the severe sea conditions in the south china sea once in a century.
the completed hull is an important part of the world's first 10,000-ton semi-submersible oil storage platform, which will serve the development project of lingshui 17-2 gas field, china's first 1,500-meter deep-water self-operated large gas field, and become china's semi-submersible production platform with the largest applied water depth. the company carries out the construction of production platform of lingshui 17-2 gas field with the high-quality control standard of "no docking maintenance for 30 years". the hull is divided into 82 sections and constructed at the same time, which are finally gathered at the qingdao site for final assembly and loading. the spacing tolerance of adjacent main and pair posts (hull and block connection points) is 6mm, and the spacing tolerance of main and pair posts is 13mm. the precision of hull assembly and loading has reached the world advanced level.
it is understood that the lingshui 17-2 gas field, which is drilled by cnooc in the western part of the south china sea in 2014, has proven geological reserves of over 100 billion cubic meters. it is located in the lingshui depression in the deep-water area of qiongdong south basin in the south china sea, 150 kilometers away from hainan island, and the water depth is about 1,500 meters. the gas field will adopt the development mode of "semi-submersible production platform underwater production system", and its production facilities include the world's first deep-water semi-submersible production platform with 10,000-ton oil storage and a complete set of underwater production system with a depth of 1,500 meters. expected to start production in 2021, the gas field will provide 3 billion cubic meters of gas per year to guangdong, hong kong, hainan and other places, which can meet a quarter of the livelihood gas needs of the greater bay area.
yu yi, chairman of the company, said that, on 15th may this year, the company just successfully delivered china's largest operating water depth fpso (floating production storage and offloading) "offshore oil 119". in the past two years, the company has also delivered two 300,000-ton mega fpso for brazil, among which the p70 fpso was selected as one of china's "top 10 innovative projects" in 2019. the completion of the semi-submersible oil storage platform hull of lingshui 17-2 project marks the company's new breakthrough in deep-sea floating body construction technology and epci overall contracting capacity. in the future, the company will continue to strengthen the capacity building of core technologies for deep-sea oil and gas resources development, strive to be the pioneer in scientific and technological innovation development and increase the storage and production of offshore oil and gas, and make important contributions to promoting the high-quality development of china's offshore oil industry and ensuring national energy security.
